Roy Goldberg and Lewis Palzer come together as long time friends to share their origins at Tremont School of Judo and their martial arts journey in an exceptional one day event.
Lewis Palzer Dai Shihan Mi Yama Ryu began his martial arts training in Judo in the early 1960’s under the direction of Shinan Antonia Pereira at his Tremont School of Judo and Jujitsu located in the Bronx NY on Tremont Avenue. Beginning in 1965 Dai Shihan Palzer began his study of Sensei Pereira’s eclectic style of Mi Yama Ryu Jujitsu which was based in large part on both the classical Japanese styles of Tachenaruchi and Soshiishi jujitsu. Dai Shihan Palzer received his Shodan rank in October of 1967, the 24 th person to receive such rank in the Miyama Ryu Jujitsu system. After achieving the highest rank of Shihan in the Mi Yama Ryu system, Mr Palzer was awarded the rank of Dai Shihan of the Mi Yama Ryu Jujitsu by Antonio Pereira Jr, the founders son and Soke of the Mi Yama Ryu system in February of 2006.
Roy Goldberg, 7th dan also began his martial arts journey in Mi Yama Ryu under Shinan Pereira at Tremont School of Judo. He went on to become the Senior student of Kiyama Hayawo Shihan, the North American representative of Daito Ryu Kodokai. Goldberg Sensei has been awarded the Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu Kodokai Rank of 7th Dan. He is the highest-ranking non-Japanese to earn this rank from Kodokai Hombu Dojo in Kitami, Japan, which also certified him with the rare Kyoju Dairi (representative instructor) teaching license and the third Daito Ryu scroll, the Hiden Ogi. Goldberg Sensei has trained over 3 decades with Kiyama Hayawo Shihan and the leading Shihan from Japan including two Menkyo Kaiden.
Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu is a 1,200-year-old samurai martial art. Once a secret art, passed generation to generation through the Takeda clan, the system of Daito Ryu Aiki Ju-jutsu was revived in the late 19th century by Sokaku Takeda, 32nd in line of the Takeda family. It has directly influenced the development of many popular martial arts, such as Aikido, Shorinji Kempo, Hakko Ryu Jujutsu and Hapkido. Daito Ryu’s core principles focus on subtle manipulations of balance and structure and will complement and enrich any martial arts training.
