Join us for 2 days of serious training in this rare and beautiful martial art! Its core principles focus on subtle manipulations of balance and will complement and enrich any martial arts training regardless of style.
For Aikido practitioners, Daito Ryu is a link to the art of Morihei Ueshiba's teacher Sokaku Takeda. Experiencing the earlier versions of many familiar Aikido techniques will provide a new perspective on the evolution of the art and your own Aikido practice. Kodokai-style Daito Ryu is not "hard Aikido" as is sometimes claimed, but rather emphasizes building an "aiki body" to develop connection and destroy kuzushi, controlling the attacker with subtle, extremely soft techniques.
Although some experience with taking ukemi (rolling and breakfalls) is recommended, it is not required. Goldberg Sensei will demonstrate techniques for students of all ranks, styles and experience.

Goldberg Sensei is the first and only non-Japanese awarded the rank of 7th Dan and certified with the rare Kyoju Dairi teaching license by the Daito Ryu Kodokai Menkyo Kaiden at the hombu dojo in Kitami, Japan. He is also the only non-Japanese to receive the 3rd Scroll in the Daito Ryu transmission, the Hi Ogi or "Inner Secrets."
Goldberg Sensei has also studied Aikido at the United States Federation Headquarters under the direction of Yamada Shihan and his senior students and has been fortunate to take classes with and touch leading Aikido instructors including Kisaburo Osawa, head instructor of the Aikikai in Japan, Gozo Shioda founder of Yoshinkan Aikido, Morihiro Saito of the Iwama Dojo, Kisshomaru Ueshiba Doshu as well as other direct students of O-Sensei.
In addition to the martial arts, Roy Goldberg has nearly five decades of experience as a licensed physical therapist, treating thousands of patients, and has taught or lectured on neuroanatomy, neuroscience, respiratory therapy and advanced analysis of human motion.
Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is a 1,200-year-old samurai martial art. It has directly influenced the development of many popular martial arts including Shorinji Kempo, Hakko Ryu Jujutsu, Hapkido and most famously Aikido. Once a secret art, passed generation to generation through the Takeda clan, the system of Daito Ryu was revived in the late 19th century by Sokaku Takeda. Takeda went on to become Morihei Ueshiba’s direct teacher. This unique form of jujutsu is distinguished by its subtle use of unbalancing and unique throws and immobilizations. Although extremely challenging to master, its principles are universally applicable to a wide range of martial arts practices.
